Sheila E. Chosen To Be A Celebrity Judge For Idol Spin-Off
The producers behind mega-hit phenomenon American Idol take the musical reality genre to a whole new performance level with a mission to find undiscovered groups on The Next Great American Band. Singer/songwriter John Rzeznik (The Goo Goo Dolls), legendary percussionist and performer Sheila E. (The Glamorous Life, A Love Bizarre) and Australian TV personality Ian Dicko Dickson (Australian Idol) will serve as judges while Dominic Bowden (New Zealand Idol) hosts the series. The show will air in its regular time period on Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).
ALMA Awards
Sheila E. made a special guest appearance with Prince for the 2007 NCLR ALMA Awards. Hosted by Eva Longoria, additional appearances and performances by Jessica Alba, George Lopez, Mario Lopez, Carlos Mencia, Eva Mendes, Los Lonely Boys, Calle 13, amongst others. The ALMA Awards was broadcast June 5, 2007 on ABC.

About
Sheila Escovedo began making music and picked up her first drumstick at the precocious age of three, while watching her legendary father, percussionist Pete Escovedo, rehearse in their home. Sheila delivered her first solo performance to a live audience two years later. To date, she has since established herself as one of the most talented percussionists/drummers and vocalists in the world. Best known to music fans as Sheila E., she became a top session and touring musician before the age of 20, performing and/or recording with George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Con Funk Shun and many others. She played with Marvin Gaye on his final world tour, and toured and/or recorded with Diana Ross, Gloria Stefan, Babyface, Patti Labelle and Steve Nicks, among others.
In the 1980's, Sheila's friend Prince helped catapult her to her own pop superstardom. Her obvious talent further introduced hits like The Glamorous Life and Love Bizarre, plus her pivotal work on other Prince-related projects made her an international star. Particularly proud moments include her participation in the We Are The World session and video, and a performance on the Oscars with quintessential Placido Domingo.
In recent years, she has served as musical director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce Knowles, as well as the drummer for Ringo Starr on his two most recent All-Starr Band tours. Her producing, composing and arranging talents have been showcased on the Latin Grammy Awards, 1996 Summer Olympics, 1998 WOW Awards, ALMA's, and appears on countless television programs - including becoming television's first female musical director for Magic Johnson's The Magic Hour
Sheila's enthusiasm for passing it on to a new generation of players led her to design The Sheila E.'s Player Series, a new line of percussion instruments for children by TOCA in association with Kaman Music International. Despite the demands of her commitment to music, Sheila maintains a heavy involvement in charitable organizations, most notably as co-chair and co-founder of the Elevate Hope Foundation, focusing on the needs of abused and abandoned children. "There are so many kids who need our help," she says, "and it is our desire to help these children by building their confidence through music and the arts. It is one very important way for me to do God's will. I believe we were created to help and love one another. We must give something of ourselves to truly live."
